Bismila-Hir Rahma-Nir Rahim Assalamu’ Alaikum!
Greetings in the name of Allah the most compassionate and merciful! May you enjoy His peace in your life. Our subject concerns the Law (Taurat) and the Gospel (Injeel) as revealed in the Honored Qur’an. Intelligent scholars are often seen denouncing the Law (Taurat) and the Gospel (Injeel), yet we find no such words in the Honored Qur’an. So today we want to look at the specific verses in the Honored Qur’an which talk about the Law and the Gospel, which many scholars are so quick to condemn. If the Law and the Gospel were outdated, falsified, or corrupted, then why would the Honoured Qur’an have so many positive statements regarding them? Al-Araf 157 Would not once or twice be sufficient to explain that they are no longer valid? But no, there is silence in that respect. We wish for you dear reader to analysis the verses which contain the phrases Law and Gospel. We need to be in earnest prayer (du’a) over any topic of study asking for guidance, and the Ruh of Allah, Holy Spirit (An-Nahl 102), will guide us into all which we need
to know as we journey to the eternal city. We cannot afford to be on the wrong side!
The Law and the Gospel
Ayats: “It is He Who sent down to thee step by step, in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law of Moses and the Gospel of Jesus before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion of judgment between right and wrong.” Sura 3:3 Aal-E-Imran
“And Allah will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel,” Sura 3:48 Aal-E-Imran
“Ye People of the Book! Why dispute ye about Abraham, when the Law and the Gospel Were not revealed Till after him? Have ye no understanding?” Aal-E-Imran 65
“And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah.” Al-Maeda 49
“Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by the light of what Allah hath revealed, they are no better than those who rebel.” Al-Maeda 50
“If only they had stood fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that was sent to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from every side. There is from among them a party on the right course: but many of them follow a course that is evil.” Al-Maeda 69
“Say: “O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord.” It is the revelation that cometh to thee from thy Lord, that increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. But sorrow thou not over these people without Faith.” Al-Maeda 71
“Then will Allah say: “O Jesus the son of Mary! Recount My favour to thee and to thy mother. Behold! I strengthened thee with the holy spirit, so that thou didst speak to the people in childhood
and in maturity. Behold! I taught thee the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird by My leave, and thou healest those born blind, and the lepers, by My leave. And behold! thou bringest forth the dead by My leave. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from violence to thee when thou didst show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: ‘This is nothing but evident magic.’” Al-Maeda 113
“Those who follow the messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own scriptures,– in the law and the Gospel;– for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good and pure and prohibits them from what is bad and impure; He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him,– it is they who will prosper.” Al-Araf 157
“Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs in return is the garden of Paradise: they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur’an: and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme.” At-Tawba 111
“Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, but compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves in prayer, seeking Grace from Allah and His Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, being the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Taurat; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, filling the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward.” Al-Fath 29
“Then, in their wake, We followed them up with others of Our messengers: We sent after them Jesus the son of Mary, and bestowed on him the Gospel; and We ordained in the hearts of those
who followed him Compassion and Mercy. But the Monasticism which they invented for themselves, We did not prescribe for them: We commanded only the seeking for the Good Pleasure of Allah; but that they did not foster as they should have done. Yet We bestowed, on those among them who believed, their due reward, but many of them are rebellious transgressors.” Al-Hadid 27
From the sources quoted above one can easily see that the Honoured Qur’an never once condemns nor criticizes the Law and the Gospel. Now dear reader, please consider what you have just read. Why would the Law and the Gospel be mentioned as… “a guide to mankind”, and the “criterion of judgment between right and wrong” (Aal-E-Imran 3) if it is to be replaced or if had been corrupted in Mohammed’s day? Think dear reader and pray that we do not listen to those who make light of the Law and the Gospel.
If someone determines to follow what Allah teaches then that person is on a right course. In Aal-E-Imran 48 it clearly says “Allah…will teach the Law and the Gospel”. Where are those who will dare discredit these ayats? They will surely meet with scorn on the day of judgment for violating these words and teaching men to have a disregard for the Taurat and the Injeel.
Next dear friend we see in Al-Maeda 49 that through Jesus (Isa al-Masih) the Gospel was sent. “We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel”. The Law and the Gospel came from Allah, was that which was previously sent now to be obsolete? Does Allah make mistakes, and later has to do things over?
Who can ‘extinguish Allah’s Light by blowing with their mouths’? (As-Saff 8) Allah has sent these blessings, so why should anyone listen to words denouncing the Law (Taurat) and the Gospel (Injeel)? It continues to tell us that in the Law and the Gospel is “guidance, light, confirmation of the law, and admonition to those who fear Allah.” Friend, do you fear Allah, then these words are for you. These people (scholars) are indeed blowing with their mouths but in vain. Allah’s Light, the Law and the Gospel, will shine though a thousand tongues attempt to darken them. Such men will face the judgment in which they must answer for their false words and deeds.
Dear reader, where do you stand?
In (Al-Maeda 69) it counsels… “If only they had stood fast by the Law, the Gospel” that is where I have chosen to stand. Who can fault one who abides by these words?
It is indeed the “Light of what Allah has revealed”… Al-Maeda 50 “Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by the light of what Allah hath revealed, they are no better than those who rebel.” The Taurat and Injeel is light, long ago the prophet Daud wrote…“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Zabur Psalms 119:105
In Al-Maeda 113 it says “I [Allah] taught thee…the Law and the Gospel”. If Allah teaches the Law and the Gospel, then who are the scholars which say it is to be discarded?
I encourage every thinking Muslim to obtain a copy of the Law (Taurat) and the Gospel (Injeel) as quickly as possible. For therein is Allah’s Light revealed. Dear reader, make no mistake, do not delay another minute but search for the Taurat and the Injeel. May Allah’s Peace be upon thee.
