Two Mysteries!
Perhaps you know the story of Ayub (Job) and how he was among the greatest men of the East long ago. Yet he went through a most terrible crisis and lost his wealth as well as most of his family and finally his health (Sad 41) was severely affected. Ayub was in a most painful situation. Who was responsible for this? Finding the answer to this story actually solves two mysteries…
Who caused Ayub such pain, sorrow and loss? How would such a villain as this come into existence? For this and any other topic of study we need to be much in private prayer (du’a) as Allah will certainly guide and direct those who seek Him earnestly. May Allah who is oft-forgiving and full of loving-kindness (Al-Burooj 14) be near you dear reader.
Would Allah who is most Merciful and most Gracious (Al-Fatiha 1) create Iblis (Satan)? Would the Holy One, who is the source of Peace and Perfection, the Supreme, the Exalted and Guardian, as well as the Preserver of Safety (Al-Hashr 23), would He create sin and Satan the devil? Would He who has the most beautiful names (Al-Araf 180) be involved with creating such a vile thing as sin and evil?
Or was it the choices which Iblis made, that made him into Satan the devil, and Allah simply allowed Him the freedom to choose?
Allah is not responsible for the existence of sin, but rather has the remedy for it. It was not Allah who brought sin into existence, even though some think that Allah who is Holy, Just and Pure, would create Evil! No, never should we think such thoughts… such a thing should not enter our minds that Allah is responsible for the existence of evil.

How it first happened!
Then how did it happen? For all can plainly see that there is indeed a terrible corruption in the earth and evil is everywhere we look. The Holy Books give us insight into how Iblis came into existence. In the Taurat it tells us that from the beginning, that person, who now is called Satan had the name of Lucifer (Taurat Isaiah 14:12). Lucifer means “Light Bearer”. He was at one time an exalted angel who was in the mountain of Allah. (Taurat Ezekiel 28:14-15) “Thou art the anointed cherub [angel] that covereth; and I [Allah] have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”
Allah created Lucifer a pure, holy, and very beautiful being. Gradually through time, Lucifer began to look to self and exalt himself instead of the Creator. He admired his beauty and thought more highly of himself than he ought to think. Such thinking finally led to the point where Lucifer wanted to take over the throne of Allah. (Taurat Isaiah 14:12-14) “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”
Especially was he at odds against Isa al-Masih who was nearest to Allah (Aal-E-Imran 45). Lucifer the covering angel developed over time a hatred against Isa al-Masih, which developed into open rebellion. Lucifer was not in the counsel of the High Chiefs when they discussed matters among themselves (Sad 69). It appears that the High Chiefs were discussing the creation of man, and Lucifer was not in this High Counsel, he was only a created being. Created beings were not allowed in this counsel. Sad but true, Lucifer the Light Bearer, abused his holy privileges and perverted his ways through his own corrupt thinking. He became unhappy with his exalted position near to the throne of Allah, and selfishness set in.
This caused a major rebellion in Heaven, as Lucifer expressed his discontent among the many angels. This discontent and corrupt thinking, became like a contagious and dreaded disease, and many of those who listened to him chose to side with Lucifer. They also became deceived and mislead, on account of Lucifer’s trickery. The High Chiefs made plain to the angels that if they insisted on following these perverted ideas of Lucifer, they would have to leave Heaven.

War in Heaven?
Yes, it finally led to war in heaven! Injeel Revelation 12:7-9 “And there was war in heaven: Michael [Isa al-Masih] and his angels fought against the dragon [Satan]; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Isa al-Masih said… “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” Injeel Luke 10:18 At one time an exalted being, bearing light then he falls. Can we picture such a thing, Heaven a place of peace and tranquility now becomes a scene of war?
Satan questioned the holy will of Allah, and his very first work was to transgress Allah's law [the Ten Commandments]. Later he came to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, and through his temptations, he also caused them to disbelieve Allah’s word and this led them to break the commandments. It was Satan's plan to war against the God of heaven and His Holy laws both in heaven and next on earth. Allah has a constitution and laws to govern those whom he has created. It would be a dreadful mistake to side with Satan and be found on the wrong side, warring against the government of Heaven and His Holy and just laws the Ten Commandments.
After Satan was cast out, he set up his headquarters here upon this earth. He continues to deceive as he did in heaven. Only now his ability to deceive is much greater. He is still behind the crime, wars, hatred, and bloodshed we see upon earth today. He continues to sow the seeds of evil, lawlessness, and discontent upon mankind, yet Allah in His abundant mercy and compassion, does not leave us without help. Allah the Lord of truth still gives the Ruh of Allah (Holy Spirit) to strengthen the believers (An-Nahl 102). Today we can claim a promise that all who come to Allah through His chosen instrument Isa al-Masih can also be filled with the Ruh of Allah (Holy Spirit) and be able to contend with this wily foe (Satan)… “for I [Allah] will contend with him that contendeth with thee…” Taurat Isaiah 49:25

Who troubled Ayub with grief?
Now to answer the first question from the beginning of our discourse…who caused the distress and evil in Ayub’s life? Taurat Ayub (Job 1:8) “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job [Ayub], that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth [avoid] evil?” It was none other than Satan, the one who fell from heaven. The story continues…Taurat Job 1:9-21 “Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job [Ayub] fear God for nought [nothing]? Hast not thou made an hedge [of protection] about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” It is Satan who afflicts all who choose to follow Allah, but Satan’s power is limited. He cannot touch us beyond Allah’s leave. Some day soon Satan’s power will be broken. So now you know the mystery of how Satan came into existence. May you stay close to Allah and the Ones whom He sends for us…the Holy Spirit (Ruh) and Isa al-Masih. May Allah grant unto you His eternal Peace.
